Here's what's coming up for SUM-C!

Alberta Mathematics Dialogue (AMD) 2025

The Alberta Mathematics Dialogue (AMD) 2025 is the largest annual Albertan mathematics seminar. This year, AMD is being hosted by the University of Calgary, and we (SUMC), as representatives of undergraduate students at U of C, are hosting the undergraduate research session within AMD. The AMD website is HERE.

When: May 1st and May 2nd 2025
Where: Mathematical Sciences building on the U of C main campus

SIGN UP TO PRESENT!

If you did math research while in your undergraduate program, this is an excellent opportunity for you to present your research in a professional environment, learn about mathematical research happening by your fellow undergraduate students and professional mathematicians, and network with your math community.

Note that math research can include anything that is math related such as statistics, data science, and much more! If you (and/or your supervisor) belive your work to be math related, we encourage you to present!

Sign up: to sign up we recommend doing the following (red = required):

  1. Talk to your supervisor to see if this is a good fit for you.

  2. Determine what accommodations you need to get. (Where will you stay? How will you get to AMD? Do you have enough food? How will you get back?)

  3. Reach out to your department (or faculty) to ask if they can cover the costs for your required accommodations.

  4. Fill out the Registration form to tell AMD staff that you are attending the event (link is under "Registration" on the Main Page of the AMD website).

  5. Write up a title and abstract for your talk, review it, and write up a better version.

  6. Determine the pre-requisite information you need the audience members to know for your talk.

  7. Fill out the Presenter Sign Up form for the undergraduate session for SUMC staff to know you are wanting to present (FORM IS HERE). Do This BEFORE April 15th, 2025

  8. Sign up to attend the Banquet (tickets are bought here). Tickets for undergrads is only $10! (that is not a factorial)

  9. Attend the event!

You can still attend even if you are not presenting! We highly recommend it! In such a case, you would only need to do step 4 and step 9 (and potentially step 3 and step 8) from above.

Food: Breakfast snacks and lunch are provided on both days, but no dinner is provided. But there is a Banquet on the first day!
Accommodations: We recommend attendees get a room at the Alt Hotel near the U of C main campus. There is a group rate until April 1st, 2025. Link on the main AMD Webpage HERE.

Please note that we cannot currently aid you in financing accomodations or travel expences.

Banquet information:

  • The banquet is on May 1st, 2025 (the first day of the seminar)

  • Time: 5 pm - 9 pm.

  • Location: TBA

  • Cost: $10 for undergraduate students, graduate students, and post-doctoral. $20 otherwise.

  • Tickets can be bought HERE.
