Summer Seminar
Date: Friday, August 28 to Saturday, August 29
Time: 10:00AM to 3:00PM (both days)
Location: MS 457 (MATH Help Centre)
Description: Come meet other students, practice public speaking, learn new math, and share interesting things you’ve recently learned!
If you’re interested in presenting, there are both judged and non-judged options:
Judged: Open to any undergraduate student! Present for 10 minutes + up to 5 minutes of questions. The winner gets a free Klein bottle.
Non-judged: Open to anyone interested in sharing a math topic! We have long, poster, and lightning presentation formats

LaTeX Workshop

Clash of Equations
Date: Saturday March 28, 2026
Time: 2:00PM to 5:00PM (Actual competition between 2:30PM and 4:30PM)
Location: MS 457 (MATH Help Centre)
Description: A math competition between teams from different universities. This is organized by UBC Undergraduate Mathematics Society, and you will compete on behalf of UofC. See their website here.

Integration Bee
Date: Friday March 23, 2026
Time: 3:30PM to 6:00PM
Location: ES 136
Description: Compete in teams to solve hard math problems for a prize. This is suitable for all skill levels and everyone is welcome. Winners recieve half of entry fees.
Entry fee:
$5 for members
$10 for non-members.
Math Competition
Date: Friday March 13, 2026 (The 14th is a Saturday :( )
Time: 11:00AM to 1:00PM
Location: MS Grad Lounge
Description: This is a collaboration between SUM-C and GUMS. We will have free pie and we have a raffle for who gets to pie certain profs and/or club execs in the face. Proceeds are donated to the SU food bank.
There will also be a pi memorization contest and free pie.
Pi Day Event
Date: Thursday February 26, 2026
Time: 5:00PM to 7:00PM
Location: SA 147
Description: We will have speakers from various companies. This is a good opportunity to make connections with people from the industry. Please dress formally for this event!

Networking Night
Fibre Arts Workshop
Date: Tuesday February 10, 2026
Time: 3:00PM to 5:00PM
Location: BS 561 (Do not take the elevator to leave because it acts weird after 5:00PM!)
Description: We are collaborating with the Fibre Arts Club for this event. It is a tutorial for how to crochet. You can also discuss the math regarding knitting and crocheting, but you don't have to if you don't want to. Bringing supplies is not necessary.

Winter Kickoff Event
Date: Friday January 30, 2026
Time: 3:00PM to 5:00PM
Location: ST 142 (Science Collaborative Space)
Description: This is a start-of-semester celebration event for spending time friends, and hopefully meeting new ones!
During the event, we will have an activity called a "powerpoint karaoke". How it works is that anyone who wants to can submit a presentation (.pptx, .pdf) by emailing us at sumc@ucalgary.ca, anytime before the event starts. Then, anyone who is willing, in front of the others, will present one of the presentations (chosen by execs), without any preparation.
There will be free pizza for those who RSVP! This event is open to everyone, regardless of membership.
